The State Theatre of Virginia
The Barter Theatre building was
constructed in 1831 as a new location for Sinking Springs
Presbyterian Church. It is a theatre of resilience.
The earliest theatrical event known
to occur here was a production of the Virginian on January 14, 1876,
the proceeds of which were used for building repairs. In 1890, the
Sons of Temperance transferred the building's title to the Town of
Abingdon , to be used as a town hall for the benefit of the
citizenry. |

The farm is located on the banks of
the Clinch River in Dungannon, Virginia. It was home to several
crops (watermelon, pumpkins, hay, tobacco) over the years. The farm
has belonged to the Gilliam family since the early 1900's and was
passed down to Pat Gilliam Osborne in 1994.
Presently, the farm has ten
varieties of Lavender and plans have been made to add different
varieties each year. All of the Lavender is grown organically. They
also grow eight varieties of rose scented geraniums. Any herb that
is grown at Scott County Lavender, will be a compliment to the
lavender oil when it is distilled into essential oil and hydrosol.
The lavender is dried and distilled in the old tobacco barn.
